Braida Smart Seating Matters

From the project to reality: the role of a specialised technical consulting

In these last times, we witnessed many shifts and changes and the chair sector makes no exception.

We moved from an artisan production to a growing serial production where the meaning of personalisation has a new shade. But changing the colour of wood and metal or modifying the various types of upholstery is not enough to make a seating unique. We discovered this in the previous article. So, what are the requirements to translate a project into reality?

T for Translate: from Concepts by Braida’s FUTURE protocol

When dwelling on the verb “to translate”, the first thing we probably think about is the translator. That is to say, the person who is capable of turning a written text into another language, different from the original.

Let’s transfer this definition to the chairs and furniture level. Each design and each project needs someone able to make it real and concrete. This is precisely the purpose of specialised technical consulting. We will discover together what it means.

What does technical consulting mean in the chair sector?

Specialisation, competence and know-how.

The chair sector is a niche that differs from the rest of the furniture industry. Just a specialist of the seating with dedicated equipment is capable of producing them.

Chairs making companies are more and more divided between those of series production and contractors. Often, who mass-produces can’t personalise its products unless it’s about major production batches or owns branded products. Contractors, instead, are highly prepared in their specific manufacturing but can’t see the whole.

That is why it’s fundamental having a highly specialised technical expert able to mediate between the two and help the customers transform their dream project into reality. Someone that can advise the buyer on the materials and the characteristics a product must have, giving the overview of each manufacturing and with a whole District at disposal to create any kind of seating.

This is what we do at Concepts by Braida.

Why choose a service of specialised technical consulting?

The education of new designers and architects is more and more based on the design of environments and/or products using advanced 3D software and very realistic rendering. However, future designers often don’t have the opportunity to have an in-depth understanding of production dynamics.

The risk is not knowing which are the real difficulties to be faced when translating a design into a product. Rely on an expert and trustworthy consultant, enable to reduce the occurrence of any potential issues such as the choice of materials, the feasibility, the wear and resistance of a given product ensuring then also time and cost-saving.

The keywords of specialised technical consulting

To translate. That is to say the ability to make a project real and concrete, with the highest fidelity to the original design following customer requirements.

To advise. It means supporting the customer during the realisation of its product by being able to detect a product’s weaknesses and strengths by offering specially-made and innovative solutions that meet the customer’s desires and expectations.

To raise awareness. Offer and encourage an approach focused on sustainability by using sustainable materials and prevention services for specific problems that might occur over time (ex. wear). Therefore, give value to reusing, recovering and restore of existing materials, reducing the environmental footprint caused by unnecessarily storing.

Translate design within the chair district

Translating words is never just translating words. Who translates is a specialised translator and its role is frequently overshadowed because is not immediately visible.

Translating enables you to pass something down the most. Translating becomes a mediation between apparently different things, but that have in common the desire to meet and know each other.

Similarly, a design needs a translator of procedures and someone to spread it. What better way to make a design known other than making it accessible to people?

Hence where the role of our translator comes, that is to say, the specialised technical consultant. A mediator between the architects, designers, general contractors and the public. The intermediary between the idea and the product. The person who translates concepts into reality.
