The Ingrid chair: naturally sustainable

The Ingrid chair is one of the most successful products in our company’s history. Designed by the well-known Norwegian designer Jan Sabro, it represents a clear example of sustainability bonded to the values of our ancestors. Let’s discover why.

The origins of the Ingrid’s series

One day, Urbano, a dear friend of ours, and the owner of a company specialised in the manufacture of bentwood, called Lorenzo and Marco’s dad, Marino.

«Mandi* Marino! I’m producing a big quantity of bentwood for a client that uses only a part of it. So, at the end of each series, I’m left with some discarded elements which I don’t want to throw away… it would be a serious waste. My storage is full: can you find a way to reuse these components in your products?»

We asked our designer, Jan Sabro, and entrusted him with the task. From these discarded elements of solid bentwood, Jan imagined to realise an armchair’s armrest. Starting from that armrest, he then created a real masterpiece of design, functionality and comfort.

This is how the Ingrid armchair V580 was born. A product that is still highly requested and has an important value in terms of sustainability.

During the Salone del Mobile event in Milan, it’s one of the most sought-after products, and in the following month among the most sold ones. It’s a worldwide phenomenon: first in Europe, then in America, Asia, Oceania and later also in Africa. It’s magical.

The simple, neat and elegant shapes of the Ingrid chair, portray the perfect combination between Jan Sabro’s Nordic design and the distinctive production know-how of the Chair District.

Starting from the Ingrid V580 many different models were developed, to demonstrate Ingrid’s great versatility and dynamism. Multiple were its various combinations, among upholstery, finishes and materials.

Dozens of standard options were born, for example, the Ingrid rocking chair, the Ingrid stool, and the Ingrid with sledge base. Thousands of variations and millions of possible combinations which will later group under the Dynamica collection.
