September feelings: beyond the chair

How many dew drops around me
I look for the sun, where is he?
The countryside is still asleep, isn’t it?
It’s awake, looks at me and I don’t know it
(quote from the song “Impressioni di settembre” by Premiata Forneria Marconi.
Free interpretation)

September is a month of beginnings. School starts again, the summer holidays end, and everything slowly sets in motion. A month that has seen us involved in two events: Ecococasa in Pordenone and Simone Micheli’s exhibition in Florence. Was it just so? Let’s discover it together.

Point of departure: Pordenone, Ecocasa 2022

From September 9th to September 11th 2022, the twelfth edition of Ecocasa, a well-known exhibition dedicated to sustainable construction, took palce in Pordenone. Three days in which we could discover again the essence of sustainability. Many were the main topics, for example, energy saving, sustainable innovation, and green building,

Among the protagonists, there was also Animaimpresa, the association for social promotion whose guiding principles are corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development. Features that transpired in the stand created for the exhibition.

It was a multisensory space, 100% sustainable, designed, created, and made thanks to the work and cooperation of several partners and associates, including us from Concepts by Braida.

The multisensory stand

Each one of the five senses were envolved. The visitors’ eyes could admire the splendid setting of the stand, entirely made of firwood and decorated with delicate leaves in natural leather.

At the centre of the scene, a beautiful tree of sustainability was portrayed. This tree is actually Animaimpresa’s symbol. On its foliage, we could observe some keywords representing the values chosen to be transmitted: territory, person, network, environment, balance, sustainability and sharing.

A sweet backgroud music was embracing the guests by giving them a warm welcome, and a soft scent of mint, emitted by the little plants we could find everywhere in the stand, perfumed the environment. All these elements merged together with the typical tastes and flavours of our region.

Plonged in this ambience, we couldn’t miss the furnishing complements such as small tables, chairs and armchairs. Among them, there were our rocking chair Oslo designed by Cuoricini, Calla, the mindful armchair with stones for the crystal therapy conceived by Paola Varutti of Zenzone and the must-have Triple F designed for us by architect Simone Micheli.

Not just a simple stand

In other words, it was more than a stand, a real experience for the senses, starting from the touch and the smell, passing by the tase and leading to the sight and hearing. Plus, if we truly want to add something more, we could also include the sixth sense, that is to say, perception.

Heading to Florence for “Simone Micheli – Design Artwork from Dream to Reality”

That’s right, from Pordenone we landed in Florence for the opening of “Simone Micheli – Design Artwork from Dream to Reality”, the exhibition dedicated to the creations of the architect Simone Micheli. The event took place at Sala delle Esposizioni in the Academy of Arts and Design, from September 13th to September 27th.

As the title evokes, the exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of Simone Micheli’s artwork and his constant challenge to go beyond the rules imposed by the standards. His capacity to enclose complexity into simplicity, while seeking always for more and better is maybe one of the clearest examples of such an aspect.

Among the works on exposed, there was also our Step Ahead, designed for us by Simone Micheli as part of the Fuorisalone 2022 (click here to read the related article). A chair that represents precisely the idea of complex simplicity, thanks to its harmonic and sinuous features that recall the sea waves. A poem that becomes a chair, a step into design waves.

September feelings: beyond the surface

What else can we say? As the first verses of the song quoted above tell us, in the month of September everything seems to start softly. Whereas here at Concepts by Braida, we came back from the holidays and pushed on the gas pedal, heading directly into whirlwind of events and preparations.

Multisensory and poetry characterised this month. Two aspects that reminded us of the importance of going beyond the surface, and looking deeper for the very essence of things.

This is exactly what happens also in the chairs’ world. When observing a chair, we are often enchanted by its looks, a very important matter, it’s clear, but what is there behind all this beauty? How much is the work of design and technical development needed to translate a product, for us a chair, into reality?

This is what we do and what characterises us. It’s not the stage, but the backstage. Because without all the work of who stays behind the scenes, the stage wouldn’t exist. In the same way, the backstage itself wouldn’t exist without a stage. Two different gazes that cross and stand one for the other.

Come and meet us in Manzano, in the heart of the Chair District!
